Annual Meeting Highlights - Sunday, November 4th 2012

The Annual Meeting of the Association took place on Sunday after Hurricane Sandy and just before the second storm arriving the next week.

The commitment of the speakers and our community members who attended is appreciated.  It was once-again a standing-room only event.

New Board members were elected at the meeting:  Sue Mancuso Guerra, Jennifer Marwood, and Philip Smyth.  Retiring Board members were recognized for their valuable service on the Board.  Jim Mendelson was introduced as the next President of the Association.  All new members and officers will begin their terms in January 2013.

This year's annual meeting included a program to discuss our roads, waterways and the environment.  With Hurricane Sandy the program was particularly timely.  Marcia Bystryn, President, New York League of Conservation Voters emphasized the importance of developing environmental policies.  Alex Gregor, Highway Superintendent, Town of Southampton, along with William Pell IV and Eric Shultz, Southampton Town Trustees highlighted the tremendous pressures on their respective budgets.  To their credit, they have each been creative in attempting to do the necessary work with more limited resources.

We commend our speakers for navigating the complex labyrinth of state, county and town rules that involve our roads, waterways, and environment.
